Since this post is supposed to be about our routines I started to think about our day and what routines we have. I realiezed we actually have a lot!
Our morning routine was really great while I was on maternity leave - by the end I had managed to get both kids on an 8:30-9am wake up schedule, which was awesome for me! I am not a morning person at all, so this was a great wake up time. Now I'm back to work and have to wake up much earlier. :( Alex is really flexible, so he has adjusted well. It took Tyler a few days to adjust to getting up earlier and me going to work, but now I think he likes the new morning routine. Probably because we've been letting him eat cocoa puffs for breakfast every day. While both kids have adjusted well, I still don't think I've adjusted to the new routine ...
Another routine we have is praying before we eat. Recently we've started being intentional about holding hands while we pray. Tyler used to never pay attention or care that we were praying, but now all of a sudden he loves it. He also likes to say the prayer. Here is what they usually sound like ...
"Thank for food, thank for Daddy (or Mommy, baby, ella, etc), thanks for suckers, and monkeys." He doesn't always say the monkeys part, but usually he throws in some toy or character he's been thinking about lately. He is always very thankful for suckers.
Our last routine I'll write about is bedtime. For Tyler this includes brushing teeth, changing diaper (though hopefully this will end soon with potty training!!), and reading books. Note I didn't include getting on pajamas - he's decided that he likes to sleep in his diaper better. Though really, now he takes his diaper off when we leave the room, so I guess he prefers to sleep in nothing! (side story - the other morning I walked into his room and he had taken his diaper off overnight, then in the morning he had peed on his bed and pooped on the floor. He then climbed up the dresser, got down the wipes, and when I walked in he was holding the poop and said "I got, I got". He was at least holding it with a wipe, rather than bare-handed. I couldn't get mad because it was so funny, though needless to say we do go in most nights now and make sure his diaper is on.) Once we're done reading we have to tuck him in under his many, many blankets (sometimes there are like 10 receiving blankets in bed with him since he's obsessed with them). Alex's routine is much simpler right now - I feed him, change his diaper, and put him to bed. Sometimes he cries for awhile, and at that point we go in and rock him to calm him down. Recently he started sucking his thumb, which I think helps a lot with his sleeping routine. I am happy to say he also sleeps at least 8 hours straight a night now, which makes me very happy!
I don't have any great pictures to go with this post, but here's a cute one of when he was learning to suck his thumb. :)
